Changes in the economy over the past 15 years have helped to make Scotland one of the most affordable parts of Britain in which to buy a home.
Most parts of Scotland now cost less than they did in 2007 in terms of salary expenditure. The cheapest area of the country is Inverclyde, where buyers need to spend just over three times the average salary to secure the keys to a typical property.
By contrast buyers need to find 14.5 times their average earnings to purchase a house in the least affordable areas of Westminster and the City of London, according to a Bank of Scotland report.
