Canadian Homes Begin to Sell Below Asking, Signaling a Market Cooldown
The Canadian real estate market is showing signs of a cooldown, with more sellers starting to delist or sell at a discount. In Victoria, British Columbia, a luxury five-bedroom property listed at C$2.25 million (US$1.74 million) ended up selling at C$1.93 million—a discount of C$320,000. A home in Halifax, Nova Scotia, sold for C$140,000 below its list price of C$900,000. In recent weeks, there also has been a spike in “delistings,” homes that are taken off the market after failing to attract any buyers. In Australia, a three-level villa in Mermaid Beach, Queensland, that has more than 40 feet of direct beach frontage has come to the market. The listing does not have a guide price, but property records show the home last traded for A$10 million (US$6.85 million) in 2008. Former Baseball Star Ryan Zimmerman Buys Virginia Mansion for $11 Million
Recently retired baseball star Ryan Zimmerman has bought a brand-new mansion in McLean, Virginia, about 11 miles outside of Washington, D.C, for $11 million. The megamansion has 20,000 square feet of living space with seven bedrooms and 13 bathrooms. Mr. Zimmerman, 37, was nicknamed “Mr. National” as he had been a member of the Washington Nationals’ since the team’s inaugural season in 2005 through to his final season in 2021. A Historic House in Portland, Oregon, Where Eleanor Roosevelt Stayed, Selling for $2.7 Million
A 1908 Colonial Revival house in the Portland Heights neighborhood of Portland, Oregon, where first lady Eleanor Roosevelt once stayed as a guest, has been listed for $2.67 million. The well-preserved mansion has 8,635 square feet of living space featuring Tiffany wall sconces, leaded glass windows, pocket doors and seven fireplaces. For the first half of the 1900s, the home was owned by Nan Wood Honeyman, Oregon’s first congresswoman and a former classmate and Roosevelt’s longtime friend.
