MIDDLETOWN — The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development selected the Middletown Housing Authority to participate in a landlord incentive program.
The expansion of the Moving to Walk Demonstration program will allow the evaluation of landlord incentives and their impact on participation in the Housing Choice Voucher Program, or Section 8, according to a news release.
Middletown Housing Authority Executive Director William Vasillou said he’s pleased that the application was approved.
“This will enable the housing authority to enact administrative actions to benefit the needs of the community,” he said in the prepared statement.
This is the 25th year of the demonstration program, the news release said. Authorized by Congress in 1996, the Moving to Walk Demonstration provides public housing authorities the opportunity to redefine how they operate by giving them flexibility to try outside-of-the box ideas and address needs in innovative and creative ways, the release said.
