SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — The city of Sandy Springs is imposing some new limitations on party houses.

City officials say a party house is any single unit or multi-family dwelling that is used to host commercial events, like parties, ceremonies, receptions or other large-scale gatherings where a fee is typically charged, whether or not the fee is actually charged.

The city council approved an ordinance last week that will require party house events to be categorized as temporary use and will require them to get a permit before the event.

The council says this move is to protect neighborhoods from the growing trend of having large commercial events in residential areas.

The ordinance, which is effective immediately, says that party house events cannot take place within 150 of a residential property.

The ordinance further states that not getting a permit for the event first is now against the law.
