Multiple firefighter crews from around Timaru attended a macrocarpa bush blaze that destroyed two garden sheds and threatened to spread to a residential property on Wednesday night.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand received multiple 111 calls to a hedge on fire on Rosebrook Rd at 11.50pm.

At the height of the blaze, 6 fire trucks and 4 tankers were there, Fire and Emergency southern shift manager Blair Walkin said.

Two “small out buildings” were destroyed, but the fire didn’t reach the property, Walkin said.

Firefighters had the blaze under control “pretty quickly” and handed the property back to the owners at 2am.
